- Last weekend was The Find's open house. Aimee from 2Chic Events also owns and runs a furniture rental company called The Find. Although the rain was coming down pretty hard outside we still saw some awesome brides and vendors come through to check out the some of the new pieces! Are you looking to doll up your cocktail hour space with some seating? Look no further, The Find surely has something that will fit your vision. From Antique to modern, each piece brings life to any environment. This lovely place is also where we, The Memory Journalists, hold most of our consultations and meetings with our clients.
Sweet Cakes by Rebecca provided yummy desserts for those that braved the rain. :-)

- Last month The Memory Journalists photographed Rachel's Bat Mitzvah and it was so much fun! We started the evening with just a few getting ready shots. Rachel's hair is so long that she was able to have an elaborate (and cool) hair-style.

- We caught both her and Rebecca (Rachel's sister) coming down the stairs at some point throughout the evening.

- We did a bunch of family photos and group shots before most of the guests arrived. What a good looking family.

- Rachel and the girls did a "Sex In the City" walk down the front steps. LOVE IT!

- Mike Regan, of MR DJ Service, was the DJ and MC for the evening. He did a wonderful job with several games. All the kids had a blast.

- When it was time to head inside for dinner, guests found their tables decorated in a fish theme. And there was a fish on every table.

- They used shells as the place card holders.

- Later on in the evening, there was a HUGE candy bar ready for the kids to devour. I may have sampled a few sour gummy worms myself.

- The toasts created a few laughs.

- When it was time to get the party started, the kids were ready!

- Once again, Mike Regan pulled out all stops to get all the kids involved.

- The kids, and adults, enjoyed the years of history shown in the photo slideshow.

- During on of the games, I was even pulled in so that a group could be counted as 4.

- The entire group was following the moves and dancing up a storm.

- Thank you Micheal and Heidi for inviting us to photograph your daughter's special day. We had just as much fun as the kids. :-)
Enjoy our slideshow by clicking on the below photo. Be patient while it loads. And there is music (in case you need to mute)!

- Last month, The Memory Journalists had the pleasure of photographing the annual awards dinner again for Sacrament NACE (National Association of Catering and Events). Here is a listing of all the contributing vendors (unless I forgot someone, and if so, please forgive me!)

- It was held at the Capitol View room at the Hyatt Recency in downtown Sacramento. With it being themed as Old Hollywood, they even had a red carpet for guests to get their pictures on.

- The Hyatt recently installed a new chandelier as you walk in the main room. It's gorgeous!

- The tables were dressed to the nines.

- And our take home favor for the evening was some champagne and a home-made treat from Sweet Cakes by Rebecca.

- Wilson Vineyards provided wine for the evening.

- Accents by Sage did all the floral arrangements and they were amazing.

- The table decor had old photos of fabulous Hollywood women.

- Isabel and I both had the idea of shooting through the chairs...funny I saw this when I went through all the images.

- The food was delicious! And dessert, cheesecake, was even better!

- Here are random photos from the evening's guests.

- The evening's awards consisted of Caterer of the year, Member of the year, the Board award, and the President's award, and the Meeting of the year. Pictured below, Sandra Wilson graciously accepted her award.

- Bryan was a perfect Master of Ceremonies as he announced the winners.

- Jackson Catering and Events won Caterer of the year....again!

- As the night was ending, Isabel capture this wonderful silhouette of the Sacramento skyline.

- A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing "Dining in the Dark" hosted by the Venue Vixens at Jackson Catering and Events in Sacramento. Dining in the Dark was touted to be "a journey of the senses" for those adventurous enough to attend.

- The Venue Vixens put as much energy into this event as they do all other wedding events. The Venue Vixens are comprised of 4 wedding event planners: Lora, Kendra, Laurie, and Catrina.

- The theme for the night was "travel". The decorations included a highway runner down the middle of the tables, cars, post-cards, travel books, and even some vintage suitcases.

- Attention to all these little details is the exact reason that every bride should hire a wedding planner!

- The event was held at Jackson Catering & Events restaurant. Chris had just recently won 2011 Board of Directors Award and Caterer of the year at the Annual Sacramento NACE Awards Gala held at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium.

- Sarah (the ring leader of the Dining in the Dark concept) and her hubby Gabe were on hand to explain to everyone what was about to happen throughout the evening.

- Everyone was eager to start using their "sippy" cups (for water) even before they were put into the darkness.

- The only food that everyone got to see were the appetizers. The yummiest grilled cheese sandwiches and mini sliders and fries.

- With the last of the instructions given, everyone began to put on their "bibs".

- Before dinner began, participants were asked to come up a handful at a time to do a taste test quiz. People had to guess what they just tasted and everyone's answers were shared. Now some of you might think that this would be a good time to use some nasty, squishy, or down right smelly items....but it was not like that at all! It was common everyday things that we all take for granted and surprisingly most everyone was NOT able to guess the right answer. Sarah even included one 'smell' test.

- After the quiz time was over, everyone was asked to "go dark". Rather than lights going out, everyone put on face masks....so the likes of myself could photograph the evening and the reactions of all the attendees.

- Everyone was excited and getting into the evening before the first course was served. People stretched out with their wine glasses for "cheers".

- The first course was from California....and the cool thing about the "journey of the senses" that Sarah and Gabe put together was that it included more than just the food. For California, Gabe walked around with a heater and random vegetables were placed on people's plates. The idea was that each person would experience the 7 regions of the United States that had been selected for each course.

- The 2nd region was the Pacific Northwest. Gabe walked around with a mister (hello it always seems to rain in the northwest!). MR DJ Service (Mike Regan) even planned the music for each region.

- I found it funny that people soon picked up habits to help them with their lack of sight. People would keep a finger on their wine glass as they touched their plate. It gave them a sense of orientation.

- Wine pairings went with each entree course. Judi Bruckman of Ste Michelle wine estates, gave us all some great tastes.

- All senses were played with during dinner. Those of us without masks, watched as sounds were emitted next to people's ears by Sarah and Gabe. And some, played a few practical jokes by moving iPhones from one plate to another; or using feathers to tickle ears.

- There was even a plan for when it was "bathroom" break time. A bell was used to signal your need to have to get up from your seat.

- Bells rang, hands were raised, and you were escorted while still blind, until you reached the bathroom door.

- During the East Coast cuisine, Gabe walked around asking for change. And taxi calls were made. Made you feel just like you were in New York.

- Did I mention that some people played a few practical jokes on participants?

- The last course was dessert and was set in the Southeast. Everyone got fully involved putting on their hats, beads, and other masks.

- As the photographer, I loved getting up close to people and getting their portrait. They didn't even know I was there!

- Here is the full menu by Jackson Catering.

- And our Chef Chris Jackson, along with a photo of each course. I'd have to say my favorite course was #1 - California Farms Soup Shots.

- Once dessert was served, everyone was allowed to take off their blindfolds, and everyone continued to party and wear their beads, hats, and masks - but now they could see the person next to them!
What a great evening...and great ideas by everyone involved. I can't wait to see the short film that Jensen Wedding Films will be creating!

- Last Tuesday evening was our Sacramento NACE meeting and we had the pleasure of Maximilian Riedel, 11th generation glass-maker and CEO of Riedel Crystal of America, demonstrating the relationship between the shape of a glass and our perception and enjoyment of wines.

- When I arrived early to photograph the event, which was open to the public, it was amazing to see so many Riedel glasses on the tables. The perk of attending this event was that for the cost of your entrance, you were going to take home the 4 piece Vinum XL tasting set.

- I arrived in time to watch as the wines were poured.

- There were many great sponsors to this NACE event. Sacramento Magazine's Our Wedding was on hand with magazines as well as provided water at each seat.

- Check-in started at 6pm and the tables filled up quickly. The bottom two photos showcase some of the wonderful people who helped put on this great NACE event: in the bottom left you see Mike Regan of MR DJ Service (with Sandra of Arden Hills Resort). And bottom right is our fearless crew of Catrina of Catrina Maria Event Planning and Design, Sandy Wilson of Wilson Vineyards, and Fearon of Fearon May Events.

- Maximilian Riedel took the stage to begin our lesson and can I just say "WOW", I never knew I had so much to learn about wine glasses and the importance of drinking wine out of the right glass.

- As people were enjoying their first taste of a Riesling, I headed up the balcony to showcase how many people were in attendance at the Elks Tower.

- When we had to pour our great Cabernet into the Chardonnay glass....I cried. It now tasted horrible! According to our tasting notes, "The shape of the glass is responsible for the flow the wine and consequently where it touches the various taste zones of the tongue. The initial point of contact depends on the shape and volume of the glass, the diameter of the rim, and its finish (whether it is cut and polished or rolled edge) as well as the thickness of the crystal."

- It was amazing to see how everyone learned and was in awe of the discoveries they were making. We were taught about temperature, texture, and taste. Wine is composed of different elements: fruit, acidity, mineral components, tannin and alcohol. The combination between the sense of smell and taste leads to the world of flavor. And the glass itself plays a HUGE role in this experience.

- Towards the end of the evening, Maximilian Riedel brought out "Eve", the most amazing decanter you will ever see! Retails for $495. I immediately went home and told Cory I wanted one! I can't wait to see what Eric of Acti-Video Productions does with the sound clip when Mr. Riedel turned the decanter.

- After the wine tasting demonstration was over, it was time for some wonderful appetizers by some of our local favorites: The Firehouse Restaurant, Jackson Catering and Events, and Beth Sogaard Catering.

- Last but certainly not least, The Chocolate Architects provided a sweet dessert as our finale. My personal fave was the Rocky Road with the little marshmallows!

- Thank you Mr. Riedel. It was such a pleasure to photograph this event, but even more of a pleasure to learn about the importance of the glass! I personally own Riedel glassware in all shapes and sizes. From here on out I will never use the wrong glass again!

- Some of the many other great vendors who helped make this event a success:
Rent Rite - The Party People, Wineries: Wilson Vineyards, Bogle Vineyards, Heringer Estates, Lange Twins Winery, Acti-Video Productions, All Seasons All Reasons Fine Catering, The Firehouse Restaurant, Jackson Catering and Events, Beth Sogaard Catering, the Chocolate Architects, MR DR Service, Catrina Maria Event Planning and Design, Fearon May Events, Sacramento Magazine's Our Wedding, and Sacramento NACE.
And of course The Memory Journalists photographed this event. :-) Please forgive me if I left anyone out.
